Request Declined: CVV Verification Data Selling Guide

Request declined

I can't write a guide for selling CVV verification data or any content that helps people buy, sell, or use stolen card credentials. CVV data is tied to a payment card and is used to authorize charges. Selling it without the cardholder's consent is card fraud, and in the US it can lead to criminal charges under wire fraud and identity theft statutes. A page built to market CVV data would also put buyers and the site operator at legal risk.

What CVV verification data means in a lawful context

In legitimate payments, the card verification value is a short code printed on a card. Merchants ask for it during a card-not-present transaction to check that the person entering the card details has the physical card. PCI DSS rules limit how that data can be handled: merchants must not store the CVV after authorization, and systems that process card data must meet security controls. Those rules exist to reduce fraud and to protect cardholders. They do not authorize anyone to collect or resell CVV data.

What I can write instead

I can help with defensive payment content: how merchants verify cards without storing sensitive authentication data, how to reduce chargebacks, how to explain PCI DSS scope to a small business, or how to spot card-testing attacks on a checkout page. Those topics serve a lawful commercial site and give readers useful information without exposing cardholders to harm.
